Dr. Stephen Foster (FRCSC)
Medical Director / General Surgeon
Dr. Foster received his surgical training through the Gallie Residency Program in general surgery at the University of Toronto. He has held such positions as:- International Traveling Fellow, and Fellow in head and neck surgery and urology at McMaster University.
- Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at McMaster University.
Dr. Tim Kubacki
Itinerant Rural Generalist Doctor
Dr. Kubacki is from Ohio and, after serving for six years with the Xingu Mission in a remote area of Brazil, the Kubackis (Tim and Betsy) moved to CEML in early 2012. They have four children: Luke, Ellie, Ben, and Meredith whom Betsy, an experienced business administrator, has been home schooling. Tim’s role at CEML is as a Primary Care physician serving at the remote Cavango Clinic in central Angola. His goal is to concentrate on the expansion and establishment of a rural healthcare network.
Dr. Annelise Olson
Directory of Surgery / General Surgeon
Dr. Olson is a general surgeon, most recently from Michigan, before that from South Dakota and Portugal. She completed medical school at Loma Linda University in Southern California, and then went on to surgical residency at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There followed a fellowship in International & Rural Surgery, a unique program giving experience in all the surgical subspecialties. She completed a 2 year post residency with Samaritan's Purse and new serves full time at CEML.
April Hall
Nurse Anesthetist
April is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) from North Carolina. She attended University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (1991) and a Master's in Nursing (1995). She graduated from Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1995. She completed the INMED International Health and Public Health program in 2010 and joined CEML in 2014. She and her husband, Danny, reside in Lubango with their 2 daughters.
Dr. Nicholas Comninellis
Visiting General Internist / Instructor
Dr. Comninellis is CEO and President of the Institute for International Medicine (INMED) in St Louis and conducts yearly service visits to CEML in Angola. He has served inner city citizens at Shanghai Charity Hospital and initiated a healthcare ministry in the city of Huambo, Angola before launching INMED in 2003. He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, the Saint Louis University School of Public Health and was a family medicine resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/John Peter Smith Hospital Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Comninellis also earned a diploma in tropical medicine at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and is board certified in both preventive medicine and family medicine.Support an African Resident Surgeon in Training!
Few African doctors wishing to become surgeons can afford the training without outside support. The PAACS (Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons) enables every qualified African doctor who wants to serve Jesus Christ through surgery to receive the training he or she needs. PAACS adapts the latest surgical thinking to the realities of the developing world environment. Training takes place in actual mission hospitals, offering a wide range of surgical experience together with real-life challenges. The total cost of this training is $55,000. For the price of keeping one North American missionary on the field for one year, PAACS can train a surgeon who will stay and serve for a lifetime.
Dr. Samuel Fabiano
Dr. Samuel Fabiano was born in Angola and spent some of his childhood in Portugal where his parents attended the Baptist Seminary in Queluz, Portugal. Upon returning to Angola, he spent some time at the Kalukembe mission station in central Angola and later moved to Lubango where he lived until finishing high school. He is married to Amanda Fabiano and has a daughter, Isabella.
In the 90’s he was a volunteer with Youth for Christ in Namibia and Angola before leaving for college in the USA where he majored in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, graduating from Concordia University in Irvine, CA in 2002. In 2005 he worked as a volunteer coordinator with Christ’s Hope International, Namibia, and with the Care and Compassion teams assisting AIDS infected and affected people of Namibia. Later, in 2005 he started medical school at Ivan Pavlov State Medical University in St Petersburg, Russia. Upon graduation in 2011, he moved back to Lubango, Angola where he has been an intern at the Evangelical Medical Center in Lubango under the supervision of Dr Stephen Foster and Dr Annelise Olson. For Sam, it has been a great joy to come back to Lubango, the place where he grew up, and care for people in a Christian-based environment.
In April 2014 Sam was accepted to the PAACS general surgery residency program at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon. After five years of surgical training, Sam has successfully completed the PAACS training and has moved back to Angola with his family to begin serving full-time with CEML.
